Bem-vindo(a) à Taberna do Burriqueiro!

Undoubtedly, one of the most beautiful panoramic views over Nazaré's village. Today, I introduce you to Serra da Pescaria.

It's located in the south of Nazaré, an outcrop parallel to the coast, where the oldest rocks of Nazaré region date backwards 154 million years. They're deposits of the Superior Jurassic, which show a close connection with the tectonic activity, linked to the second phase of rifting of the opening of the Atlantic Ocean and separation of the supercontinent Pangea.

The flora of this region is the typical of coastline areas and still is very well preserved and you can observe typical mediterranean species.

On the western side of Serra da Pescaria, in the coastal sector of the region south of Nazaré, from the Alcoa river to the limit of Salgado beach, we can find an active dune structure, fairly complex, formed by two dune ridges and separated by an interdunar passage where the vegetal associations show you different mesological conditions that characterize this coastal coast.

Summary: if you go to Nazaré, visit Serra da Pescaria!

How can I talk about Porto without expressing the eternal love I have for this city? I just can't. Porto was my fresh-start city, a really beautiful city that (still) has my heart.

If I decided to list all the beautiful places you can visit on Porto, this post would be really long. So, I decided that today I'm just going to write about a place that I personally love: the Observatory of Serra do Pilar (Monastery of Serra do Pilar, Vila Nova de Gaia). Yes, it's on the other side of the river but, in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful views that you can enjoy upon D. Luís I bridge and the riverside area of Porto.

In addition to offer a beautiful view of Cais da Ribeira and the city of Porto, it also offers a view of the wall that protected the city. As the historic center of Porto, since 1996, the monastery was considered an UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it's the only monastery of the Iberian Peninsula that has a circular cloister.

How to get there?
Largo de Aviz | Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar, Vila Nova de Gaia
GPS coordinates: 41° 8′ 18″ N, 8° 36′ 24″ W

TIP: Go down Serra do Pilar and cross the bridge on foot to enter the city. It's really amazing!

Lagoa do Canário is located in São Miguel island (Ponta Delgada, Azores). This lagoon is located in the middle of Serra Devassa and is housed by a vulcanic crater.

And if you search for a breathtaking view, in Mata do Canário, next to the lagoon, you can find a belvedere: the well-known Miradouro da Grota do Inferno. It's possible to have a view of Lagoa das Sete Cidades, Lagoa Rasa, Lagoa de Santiago, Lagoa do Canário, part of the village of Sete Cidades and Serra Devassa. It's a charming place, at an altitude of 730 meters, where you can see the sea mixed with mountains and the lagoons, in the middle of a wonderful, natural and wild vegetation.

Undoubtedly, one of my favorite places in the wonderful island of São Miguel.

If you love nature in its splendor, it's a place you can't miss!

Dornes is a small peninsula bordered by the Zêzere, which delights us with its balance between history and nature, being full of wonderful corners to discover.

Inside this small village you can find a mysterious templar tower, a church dedicated to Nossa Senhora do Pranto (its construction was ordered by Queen Santa Isabel during the thirteenth century) and a lovely river beach, where you can ride a canoe and/or a river gull.

I must confess that with each click I tried to understand a little more about the history of that beautiful place. Some people say that Dornes is where the inner center of Liz-Fatima is located, which is a planetary center that prepares the Earth for a New Age. The truth is: if there's really any mystery, it remains hidden and well kept!

The only thing I can really say is: the beauty of the landscape and the immense peace that is breathed along its banks make this small village a perfect destination for any tourist who searches for comforting both body and soul.

Undoubtedly, one of the most beautiful villages from Portugal!

TIPS

WHERE TO EAT?
Restaurante O Rio: Near the center of the village. It has been open for three years and serves grilled or fried river fish. Delight yourself with the pumpkin pudding with walnuts, I recommend.
Contact number: 249366411.

WHERE TO SLEEP?
Casa da Eira - Turismo Rural: Located at 1.6km from Dornes centre. It's a country house with two bedrooms, a living room with fireplace and a wide outside area for leisure. Prices from 80€.
Contact number: 934740848.

If your first thought was 'Why Alcobaça reminds her of a love story?', here is the answer... Because inside the Monastery of Alcobaça are kept the most beautiful tombs of the gothic funerary sculpture that guard the immortal lovers, D. Pedro and D. Inês.

The monastery (also known as Real Abadia de Santa Maria of Alcobaça) is one of the most beautiful gothic monasteries in the world. It's in UNESCO World Heritage list since December 1989, it's a National Monument and it's one of the 7 Wonders of Portugal. Initially, it was built according to the Benedictine model of simplicity. The work was begun in 1178 by the monks of the Cister Order, during the reign of D. Afonso Henriques. But the facade of the church was remodeled during the 18th century and now its a combination of Gothic and Baroque.

Inside the church you can see the tombs of King Pedro I and Inês de Castro. It's impossible to describe such beauty! It's not by coincidence that they are considered the best sculptural works of the portuguese medieval tombs.

The church is free to visit. If you pay the €6 entrance fee, you have access to one of the cloisters (Claustro of Dom Dinis) and the adjoining rooms. The entrance fee includes an informative audio guide too.

You really have to visit this wonderful place!
It's open from October to March - 9am to 6pm - and from April to September - 9am to 7pm. On Sundays until 2pm the entrance is free.

And, as an antique portuguese saying says: 'Quem passa por Alcobaça, não passa sem lá voltar...' (loses the meaning if I translate it!) so, I'm sure you'll come back!
